ROCKFORD, Ill. – State Rep. Maurice West (D-Rockford) released the following statement responding to the Trump Administration’s now-halted cuts to critical programs across the country:
"Donald Trump's illegal and unconstitutional cuts will hurt Northern Illinois' seniors, workers, and children. While I am relieved to see the Trump Administration’s cuts temporarily halted by judicial order, his actions are throwing our schools and service providers into fiscal chaos while jeopardizing popular programs that provide workforce training, infrastructure improvements, critically important healthcare, and more. I am especially concerned about potential disruptions to federal funding for healthy school meals, which are vitally important to ensuring our babies can learn and thrive as they grow. I urge President Trump and Illinois Republicans to abandon their Project 2025 playbook and work collaboratively to find ways to efficiently fund the services we all rely on."
